Herbert D. Hill Jr. 1924 - 2005
Graveside services for Herbert D. Hill Jr., 80, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Hill died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Lawrence, the son of Herbert Dee Sr. and Lotta O. Vaughn Hill. He graduated from Belleville High School in 1942 and attended Kansas University for four years. Mr. Hill served in the Navy during World War II as an aircraft pilot. He worked for Farmland Industries for 33 years and retired in 1987. He was a life member of the National Rifle Assn.He married Gaye Vanous on Feb. 24, 1946, in Concordia. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include four sons, Roger and Mark, both of Lawrence, Phillip, Garden Valley, Calif., and Lance, New Orleans; three daughters, Cynthia Sullivan, Portage, Mich., Deborah Crawford, Olathe, and Karen Side, Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery.The family suggests memorials to Health Access or the donor's choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
