Services for Wesley McFarland Norwood, 77, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Lawrence. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton.Mr. Norwood died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born March 10, 1928, in Lecompton, the son of Robert Moses and Bessie Edith Jackson Norwood.Mr. Norwood graduated in 1947 from Lecompton High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served 18 months in Guam. He was discharged in January 1949. He graduated in 1955 from Kansas University’s School of Law.He served as assistant county attorney from August 1955 to 1959, when he was elected Douglas County attorney. He entered private law practice in 1963 with Norwood, King and Fairchild. He later merged with Riling and Burkhead and retired in 1993.He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Abdallah Shriners, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 and the Fraternal Order of Police.He married Doris Annie Newman on Jan. 15, 1950, in Baldwin. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Brian W. and Gregg A., both of Lawrence; a brother, James T., Cheney, Wash.; a sister, Helen Elizabeth Norwood, Lawrence; and six grandchildren.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.The family suggests memorials to the church, American Lung Assn. or Boy Scouts of America, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
