Edward H. Athey

Services for Edward H. Athey, 77, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Athey died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Topeka V.A. Hospital.He was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Lawrence, the son of Jesse J. and Erma L. Desque Athey. He attended Lawrence schools.Mr. Athey served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He worked for Associated Builders in Lawrence for 25 years. He later worked for the Douglas County Maintenance Department for 10 years. He also owned and operated Athey’s Trailer Park in North Lawrence. He was active at the Douglas County Senior Center.He married Evelyn M. Brightwell on June 22, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include six sons, Gary G., Larry D., Edward L., William J., Roger D. and Carl L., all of Lawrence; a brother, Jesse J., Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to Southern Care Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
