Mary A. Winters

Services for Mary A. Winters, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lawrence Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mrs. Winters died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka.She was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Jesse R. and Catherine Cameron Clough.She attended Kansas University for two years and earned her Associate of Arts degree from the Famous Artist Institute in New York.She worked as a Healthy Start Visitor for the Douglas County Health Department for many years. She was an artist and had taught art for several years in the Lawrence community. She also worked in the art department for Lawrence Hallmark Cards in the early 1960s.Mrs. Winters was a member of Lawrence Wesleyan Church, where she was active in the Women’s Bible Study Group and the prayer ministry. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and Women’s Aglow.She married Harry A. Winters Jr. on Sept. 26, 1942, in Lawrence. He died Sept. 27, 2003.Survivors include a son, Robert Scott Winters, Lawrence; three daughters, Linda Ann Miner, Tulsa, Okla., and Catherine Victoria Hess and Jennifer Lynn Stewart, both of Lawrence; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
