Guy C. Kidwell

Services for Guy C. Kidwell Jr., 82, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Mr. Kidwell died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, from complications of cancer. He was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Robinson, the son of Guy C. Sr. and Joy J. McCally Kidwell. He graduated from Robinson High School in 1941. He graduated in 1950 with a business and accounting degree from Kansas University, where he was president of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. Mr. Kidwell served in the U.S. Marines in the Marshall Islands and Guam during World War II. He was a partner at Holmes, Peck and Brown Real Estate Agency for 35 years and was a past president of the Lawrence Board of Realtors. He was a 40 year member of the KU Williams Fund Victory Club and a lifetime member of the Kansas University Alumni Association. He was a past president and charter member of Lawrence Cosmopolitan Club, and was a former Cosmopolitan Club Governor of the Missouri-Kansas Federation and served on the international board. He received the Cosmopolitan of the Year award from the federation. Mr. Kidwell was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for 55 years. He was also a longtime member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 and Lawrence Shrine Club. He married Shirley McCormick on Dec. 16, 1945, in Leona. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Craig, Golden, Colo.; a daughter, Linda Capps, Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Shirley Bruning, Denton, Texas; a brother, Don, Topeka; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
