Ronnie R. Hopkins

Services for Ronnie R. Hopkins, 59, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. June 6 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Mr. Hopkins died May 24, 2005.He was born Nov. 28, 1945, in Lawrence, the son of Eugene and Martha Martin Hopkins. He graduated from Lawrence High School and attended Kansas University on a football scholarship.He served in the U.S. Air Force in Izmir, Turkey, and Del Rio, Texas. He was a member of the Dorsey-Liberty American Legion Post No. 14 and its honor guard, a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. He coached softball and baseball and was a Boy Scout leader. He was co-owner of Hopkins Sheet Metal, Lawrence.Mr. Hopkins married Sue Reese on July 12, 1970. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Evan Hopkins, Lawrence; his father, Eugene Hopkins, McLouth; a brother, Terry Hopkins, Lawrence; a sister, Martha Murphy, Lake Dabinawa; eight nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. They suggest memorials to Hospice Care of Douglas County or the American Brain Tumor Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
