Thomas R. Sipe

Thomas R. Sipe, 65, Lawrence, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, in Lawrence from complications resulting from a recent health issue. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.He was born Aug. 24, 1939, in San Diego, the son of Clyde and Jeanne Sipe. He received a bachelor’s degree from Drury College and a master’s degree from Kansas University.Mr. Sipe served in the U.S. Navy and retired with the rank of captain. He spent 20 years as a manufacturing executive in Springfield, Mo., where he was involved in civic and political activities. He was a city manager of Osawatomie for several years and also worked at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. He worked for the Kansas Hospital Assn. and the federal and state Hospital Bio-Terrorism Preparedness program.Survivors include his father and stepmother, Clyde and Barbara Sipe, Fernandina, Fla.; a daughter, Kathryn Ruscitti, Chicago; two sons, Thomas, Cypress, Calif., and John, Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Larry, Cottage Grove, Minn.; and three grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the Kansas Hospital Education and Research Foundation Kansas Hospital Assn., sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence.
