A celebration of life for Betty Jean “B.J.” Irvin, 51, Lecompton, will be Aug. 6, 2005, at her home. She was cremated.Mrs. Irvin died Monday, May 23, 2005, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on Route 1029 outside of Lecompton.She was born Aug. 5, 1953, in Stockton, Mo., the daughter of Virgil Howard and Beulah Faye McGatha Jones. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in social welfare and a master’s from the School of Social Welfare at Kansas University.Mrs. Irvin was a case manager at the Lawrence Office of the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging.She married Michael L. Irvin on Dec. 2, 1972, in Jackson County, Mo. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include her mother, Lecompton; three sons, Scott and Brent Irvin, both of Lecompton, and Todd Irvin, Portland, Ore; a sister, Peggy Pittman, Chicago; and two grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the B.J. Irvin Memorial Fund to the School of Social Welfare through the Kansas University Endowment Association, 1891 Constant Ave., Lawrence 66047.Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego is in charge of arrangements.
