Hubert Dean 'Lucky' Gier 1923 - 2005
Graveside services for Hubert Dean "Lucky" Gier, 82, Richmond, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Gier died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Onaga Community Hospital, Onaga.He was born March 16, 1923, at Valley Falls, the son of John Henry and Emma LaFonta Rose Gier. He lived in the Lawrence, Ottawa and Richmond areas for many years.Mr. Gier was a truck driver for many years. He had worked for Francis Truck Line in Wilsey and Johnnie Ross Trucking in Perry.He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea and earned many awards, including the Bronze Star. He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 in Lawrence.He married Bonnie Jean Hunt; they divorced. He married Marie Farris Stone on April 13, 1961, in Tonganoxie. She died Sept. 20, 2000.Survivors include a son, David, Wichita; two daughters, Sarah Harkelroad, Elkhart, Ind., and Sandra Barnett, Soldier; two stepsons, Dennis Stone, Lawrence, and James Stone, Princeton; a stepdaughter, Sharon Hensley, Reed Springs, Mo.; a brother, Robert "Bob", Valley Falls; a sister, Leona Rossell, Girard, Ohio; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
