Rev. Harry R. Cole

Services for the Rev. Harry R. Cole, 77, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Cole died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at his home.He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Ray D. and Florence Sawders Cole.Mr. Cole served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean War. He owned a heating and air-conditioning company in the 1950s and 1960s in Warren, Ohio.He graduated from Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Mo., and served 20 years as pastor of Baldwin Baptist Church. He retired and moved to Lawrence, where he was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and taught chapel at Heritage School. He also was a member of the American Legion in Baldwin.He married Vera Peters on Sept. 2, 1950, in Clinton, Ohio. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Daniel, Lawrence; two daughters, Sandra Poff, Lawrence, and Colleen Cole, O’Fallon, Ill.; a sister, Helen Huffman, Michigan, and four grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Kansas Dialysis Services, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Cole.
