Arthur Fridblom

Services for Arthur Fridblom, 76, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Mr. Fridblom died Monday, June 27, 2005, at his home.He was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Janesville, Wis., the son of Oscar Samuel and Myrtle Marie Alling Fridblom. He grew up in Madison, Wis., attending public schools and the University of Wisconsin. He graduated from Broadview Academy in Illinois in 1946. He moved from Kansas City, Kan., to Lawrence in 1994.Mr. Fridblom worked for Chicago Northwestern Railway in Madison until 1953 and then worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Kansas City, Kan., from 1953 until he retired in 1990. He was a switchman and brakeman for the railroad. He was a soloist for First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., Linwood Presbyterian and later Linwood United Church for many years. He was a member of the University of Missouri Mendelssohn Choir, choir of B’nai Jehudah, Lawrence Civic Choir, First Presbyterian Church choir, and several other groups. He was also a member of the Lawrence Model Railroad Club.He married Helen M. Stringham on June 10, 1950, in the Danforth Chapel at Kansas University. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Eugene P., Chesterfield, Mo.; three daughters, Barbara Miller, Lawrence, Karen Barnes, Dallas, and Grace Vaughn, Baldwin; and 11 grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the services Wednesday at the church.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or American Red Cross, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Fridblom.
