John W. 'Dub' Tippie 1929 - 2005
Memorial services for John W. "Dub" Tippie, 76, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Tippie died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.He was born April 28, 1929, in Weatherford, Okla., the son of Purl and Effie E. Warlick Tippie. He had lived in Lawrence since 1993, moving here from Salina where he lived for many years.He was a 1947 graduate of Blair (Okla.) High School. He earned a degree in vocation agriculture at Texas Tech University and an undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University. He received a master's degree in science and natural resources from the University of Montana in 1974.Mr. Tippie worked as a conservationist for the state of Kansas. He was state conservationist from 1979 to 1985 and he taught conservation in Indonesia for two years, from 1985 to 1987. He retired on Jan. 1, 1989, after 36 years of conservation work in Kansas, Texas, Ohio and Connecticut.He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, the Elks Lodge in Salina and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.He married "De" Lankford. on Aug. 15, 1948, in Blair, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Brent, Columbus, Ohio, and Chris, Lebanon, Ind.; a daughter, Vickie McMullen, Olathe; a brother, Bob, Konowa, Okla.; two sisters, Joyce Smith, Iowa Park, Texas, and Goldie Taylor, Flower Mound, Texas; and six grandchildren.The family suggests memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral chapel.
