Services for Max Edward Johnson, 97, Royse City, Texas, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Johnson died Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Royse City.He was born June 21, 1907, in Ottawa, the son of Herbert W. and Nancy Pittman Johnson. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1926. He attended Ottawa University and Emporia State Teacher’s College, where he was a member of Phi Delta Chi social fraternity. He lived in Lawrence for more than 50 years before he moved to Royse City in 2003.Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for the Kansas Power and Light Co. for his entire adult life and retired in 1972 as a new business representative. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Acacia Lodge 9 A.F. & A.M., the former Lawrence High Twelve Club and American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14.He married Frances E. Emslie on March 15, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo. She died Aug. 11, 1997.A grandson died in 1984.Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Marshall, Royse City; Dorothy Spenny, Kansas City, Mo.; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or American Hospice, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Johnson.
