Jack E. Landreth

Services for Jack E. Landreth, 83, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment services will be at a later date.Mr. Landreth died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.He was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Wellington, the son of James C. and Edna E. Eastman Landreth. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He moved from Topeka to Lawrence in 1959.Mr. Landreth served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He served in the South Pacific and received a Purple Heart. He was employed by the St. Paul Companies. He formed the partnership of McKinley and Landreth. The partnership became Charlton Manley insurance, where he served as president until 1980 and retired in 1983. He continued to be an active member of the Board of Directors. He was a member of the State Association of Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas, where he served two terms on the Board of Governors and many years as chairman of the Education Committee. He was chosen as Kansas Agent of the Year in 1983 and was a designated CPCU. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kansas State Alumni Assn., Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and Lawrence Kiwanis Club.Mr. Landreth married Betty Stephens on March 9, 1947, in Ashland. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Mitchell J., Lawrence; a daughter, Libbie Landreth, Mosca, Colo.; a sister, Dorothy Walters of Addison, Texas; and a grandson.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Landreth.
