The Rev. Robert Lewis Carlson

Inurnment services for the Rev. Robert Lewis Carlson, 83, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the south courtyard of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.The Rev. Carlson died July 10, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence. He was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Milford, Conn., the son of Frank Emanuel and Gladys Veighte Carlson. He moved from Manhattan to Lawrence in 1990. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in music from the University of Oregon in 1942. He went to seminary at Pacific School of Religion, where he received his Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1945. He received a Master of Sacred Theology at Yale in 1950, and an honorary doctorate was conferred by the Pacific School of Religion in 1965.The Rev. Carlson was minister to congregational students at Yale University. He served First Congregational Church in Boulder, Colo., and four churches in the Northern California Conference of the United Church of Christ. He was pastor emeritus at First Congregational Church in Manhattan, where he served as pastor from 1982 to 1990, and also at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, where he served as hospital visitor. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and was also a charter member of the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club.He married Marguerite Williams on Feb. 3, 1980. She survives, of the home. Other survivors include a son, Robert W., Menlo, Calif.; a daughter, Catherine Ann Carlson, Waupun, Wis.; a stepson, J. Gill Wright, Sacramento, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Schlaich, Concord, Calif., and Joanne Morgan, Lawrence; two sisters, Ruth Fawcett, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Lois Brock, San Mateo, Calif.; three grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., Lawrence 66044.Warren-McElwain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
