Maud H. Spencer

Services for Maud H. Spencer, 96, Melvern, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in East View Cemetery in Big Springs.Mrs. Spencer died Monday, June 6, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 20, 1908, in rural Gardner, the daughter of Arthur and Grace Donovan Hermon. She moved from Stull to Melvern six years ago.Mrs. Spencer was a school teacher for seven years and was then a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Family and Community Education unit, both in Stull.She married Thurman Russell Spencer on June 6, 1934, in Gardner. He died in 1993.Survivors include two sons, Philip Spencer, Melvern, and James Spencer, Quenemo; two daughters, Georgia Wingfield, Lecompton, and Bonnie Hinck, Eskridge; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Comfort Keepers of Lawrence, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Maud Spencer.
