Robert M. Fowler

Robert M. Fowler, 81, Lawrence, formerly of Casper, Wyo., died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Lawrence. He was cremated.Dr. Fowler was born, Jan. 6, 1924, in Salt Lake City, where he grew up. He attended the University of Utah, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. After graduating from the University of Utah Medical School, completing a residency in pediatrics and serving as a physician in the Navy in Japan, he moved to Casper, where he practiced pediatrics. He retired from private practice in 1977 and joined the faculty of the University of Wyoming Family Practice Residency in Casper. He fully retired in 1988.Dr. Fowler founded programs for children with disabilities and served as first vice president of the YMCA in Casper. He was a member of the Casper school board for six years, a member of the Wyoming Cleft Palate Team from 1967 to 1988, and the physician in attendance for the state wrestling tournament for 14 years.He was active in the Casper Lions Club. He also volunteered in literacy programs and Meals on Wheels. Dr. Fowler received several awards for his involvement in community and educational organizations.He married Winifred “Winnie” Fowler in 1944. She survives, of Lawrence.Other survivors include a brother, Burnell Fowler, Sunset Beach, N.C.; a daughter, Anne Fowler, Lawrence; two sons, Charlie Fowler, Longmont, Colo., and David Fowler, Calgary-Alerta, Canada; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to Winnie Fowler, 1501 Inverness Drive, Apt. 203, Lawrence 66047. A memorial scholarship in Dr. Fowler’s name also is being established at Casper College.
