George Edward “Ed” Lilly

Services for George Edward “Ed” Lilly, 88, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Lilly died Friday, June 3, 2005, at Olathe Medical Center.He was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Sylvia, the son of Edward Francis and Viola Janett Daugherty Lilly. He attended rural schools and lived in Ottawa since 1926.Mr. Lilly served in the U.S. Army Air Force from October of 1942 to February of 1946 during World War II. He was a master plumber and worked for 10 years for Durbin Plumbing in Ottawa, nine years for Norris Brothers Plumbing Co. in Lawrence and 10 years as a plumbing supervisor at Osawatomie State Hospital. He retired March 1, 1982. He worked on staff at First Baptist Church in Ottawa for 10 years as a maintenance mechanic after he retired. He was a member of the church and Warren Black Post 60 of the American Legion in Ottawa.He married Doris Illene Hamby on July 15, 1939, in Mound City. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Schuster, Larned; a sister, Wilma Jean Burgoon, Ottawa; and four grandchildren.Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday before the services at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.The family suggests memorials to the church or Village West in Ottawa, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S.
