Services for Marvin B. Garrett, 81, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Garrett died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence.He was born June 25, 1924, in Gove County, the son of Charles and Martha Friebus Garrett.He attended Kansas University, and he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.Mr. Garrett was a production planner for Lawrence Paper Co. for 42 years.He was a member of First United Methodist Church, York Rite Bodies, Elks Lodge, Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, all in Lawrence, and the Masonic Lodge in Oakley.He married Emma Vawter on Oct. 22, 1944, in Oakley. She survives.Other survivors include two sons, Robert B., Gilroy, Calif., and Jerry L., Lawrence; a daughter, Janet L. Cantin; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Garrett.
