Services for Thomas E. “Tom” Arnold, 90, Ottawa, will be at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.Mr. Arnold died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.He was born June 5, 1915, in Vermillion, the son of Anderson and Una Bell Hoag Arnold. He grew up and attended school in Holliday. He lived in Galesburg, Ill., Olathe, Melvern and moved to Ottawa in the 1950s. He later moved to Rantoul and returned to Ottawa in 1992.Mr. Arnold served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 776th Amphibian Tank Battalion and attained the rank of tech four. He received the American Defense Medal, American Theater Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations Medal, with two stars and an arrowhead, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars. He worked as an oilfield mechanic and on the railroad as a mechanic. He also worked at Sunflower Ordinance Plant and at Worlds of Fun in welding and maintenance.He married Doris Marie Walters on May 10, 1941, in Rich Hill, Mo. She died Feb. 4, 2005.A grandson also died earlier.Survivors include two sons, Thomas Edward Arnold, Imperial, Mo., and Robert Earl Arnold, Edgerton; three daughters, Virginia Lee Welch, Ottawa, Linda Marie Foltz, Rolla, Mo., and Barbara Ann Williams, Wellsville; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday before the services at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.The family suggests memorials to Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Post 5801, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S.
