Alvin B. Tollefson 1916 - 2005
Services for Alvin B. "Tony" Tollefson, 89, Lawrence, will be from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with a visitation to follow until 6 p.m. Inurnment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Everest.Mr. Tollefson died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born June 2, 1916, in Willis, the son of Christopher Anthony and Ida Sophia Knudsen Tollefson. He moved from Holton to Lawrence in 1964.Mr. Tollefson served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and the Aleutian Islands. He received a Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the bowling business in Horton, Holton, Hillcrest Bowl in Lawrence, Topeka and Salina. He was later a salesman for Jim Clark Motors until he retired.He married Cornella Lee on Oct. 20, 1943, in Fort Sill, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Gary and Alan, both of Montrose, Colo.; a daughter, Karen Beightel, Lawrence; a sister, June Cox, Belleville, Ill.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Tollefson.
