Leonard Lee Smith

Visitation services for Leonard Lee Smith, 55, Carbondale, will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday in Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton.Mr. Smith died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in Topeka.He was born Feb. 23, 1950, in Lawrence, the son of William and Dorothy Checksfield Smith. He was raised in Lecompton and lived in Carbondale for the past 15 years.Mr. Smith worked at Kan Build in Osage City, drove trucks for Dean’s Trucking in Lawrence, Gruber Truck Line and Green Acres Trucking. He was a member of the National Rifle Assn. and Lecompton Historical Society.He married Kathy Payne on Dec. 10, 1990, in Miami, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his mother, Topeka; a son, William “Bill,” of the home; four daughters, Marissa and Janee Smith, both of the home, and Laura Van Donge and Caressa Smith, both of Topeka; a brother, William W., Topeka; two half-brothers, Delbert, Lawrence, and Ernest, Lecompton; four grandsons; and his ex-wife, Jima M. Morrissey.The family suggests memorials to the Leonard Lee Smith Children Memorial Fund, sent in care of Carbondale State Bank, 530 Main St. and Highway 75, Carbondale 66414.
