Richard Merrill Heckler Sr. 1919 - 2005

Graveside services for Richard Merrill Heckler Sr., 86, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Heckler died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, at his home.He was born July 25, 1919, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Allie and Mabel Heckler. He moved from Tulsa, Okla., to Lawrence in 2000.Mr. Heckler served in the cavalry of the U.S. Army and also served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a chiropractor and owned Heckler Chiropractic in Wichita. He was executive director of the Boy Scouts of America in Wichita. He was a member of Yale Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa and attended First Christian Church in Lawrence.He married Jeanne "Betty" Haunstein on March 18, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Richard Jr. and Robert, both of Lawrence; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.A daughter, Deborah Massard, and a grandson died earlier.The family suggests memorials to the Richard Heckler Memorial Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.E-mail condolences may be sent to <a href="mailto:info@warrenmcelwain.com">info@warrenmcelwain.com</a>, subject: Heckler.
