Warren T. Hornsby 1919 - 2005
Services for Warren T. Hornsby, 86, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Hornsby died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Topeka, the son of Bennett Thomas and Jessie Mabel Curtis Hornsby. He was a graduate of Kansas State University, where he played baseball and was an all Big 6 Player. He moved from Prairie Village to Lawrence in 1963.Mr. Hornsby served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a lieutenant in the North Pacific during World War II. He worked as a quality assurance manager for Hallmark Cards Inc. in Topeka, Kansas City and Lawrence for 36 years before he retired. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 42 years. He was also a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 and a past member of Lawrence Sertoma Club.He married Beverly J. Billingsley on Sept. 8, 1946, in Great Bend. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Richard, Houston; two daughters, Nancy Zino, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Sue Alldredge, Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, where the family will receive them from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at <a href="http://www.rumsey-yost.com">www.rumsey-yost.com</a>.
