Minnie Pearl Thomas

Services for Minnie Pearl Thomas, 84, Oklahoma City, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Christian Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Mrs. Thomas died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City.She was born May 3, 1921, in Panther Burn, Miss., the daughter of Benjamin and Hattie Daniels Brand Jr. She moved from Lawrence to Oklahoma City in 2004.Mrs. Thomas worked for fraternity and sorority houses at Kansas University. She worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant during World War II and the Vietnam War. She was a longtime member of Second Christian Church and an active member of the East Lawrence Improvement Assn. She was also a member of Lawrence Senior Center, Flamingo Social Club and a charter member of Charmettes Social Club.She married Albert Thomas on April 27, 1943, in Greenville, Miss. He died earlier.A son, Willie Washington, died earlier, and a grandson died earlier.Survivors include a son, Delbert Thomas, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Gwen Walker and Valeria Henderson, both of Oklahoma City; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Thomas.
