Services for Helen I. Keltcher, 87, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mrs. Keltcher died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.She was born June 27, 1918, in Clearcreek Vernon, Mo., the daughter of Everett Leland and Margaret June (Peake) Culbertson.She earned an associate’s degree in education from Fort Scott Community College, and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Kansas University. She taught first grade in Yates Center. After that, she taught at Centennial School in Lawrence for more than 25 years. She retired in 1982. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota teaching sorority and First Christian Church.Mrs. Keltcher married Wesley Keltcher April 7, 1939, in Fort Scott. He died in August 1993.She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Freeman, Lawrence, and Jennifer Keltcher, Cordova, S.C.; two sisters, Marilyn Gyull, Independence, Kan., and Mardell Engelbrecht, Olathe; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.A son, Lanny Keltcher, died in 1967.Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, where the family will receive them from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service time.The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Keltcher.
