William R. Findley

Services for William R. Findley, 85, Wooster, were Saturday, Dec. 3, at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster.Mr. Findley died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Wooster Community Hospital.He was born June 26, 1920, in Manhattan, Kan., the son of William R. Sr., and Ruth Gilmore Findley. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence, Kan., Kansas State University and the University of Maryland, where he received a Ph.D.Mr. Findley served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a captain during World War II. He worked as a corn breeder for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 35 years. He was a member of Wooster United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Association of Retired Persons, Elks Lodge, Kiwanis and NARF.He married Violet N. Carr. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two daughters, Gloria Jean Wirt, Moreland, Ohio, and Barbara Louise Rydell, Marathon, Fla.; four brothers, James, Manhattan, Frank, Baldwin, Kan., David, Afton, Okla., and Paul, Lawrence; a sister, Dorothy Koger, Gautier, Miss.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the church, Attn: Kathy Miller, 243 N.
