Lewis R. Kennedy 1936 - 2005 Ottawa
Services for Lewis R. "Dick" Kennedy, 69, Homewood, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery.Mr. Kennedy died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at his home.He was born April 23, 1936, in St. Paul, the son of William F. and Clema T. Davenport Kennedy. He graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1954. He lived in Ottawa before moving to Homewood in 1978.Mr. Kennedy served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He attained the rank of specialist third class and received the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal in Germany, and the Marksman Badge M-1. He worked as an auto-body technician for D&M Body Shop in Pleasanton and worked for Jack Ellena Buick in Lawrence. He and his wife, Mavis, owned and operated Homewood Upholstery for 20 years and retired in 2001. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church and the Williamsburg Wildlife Club.He married Maybelle Berry in 1957 in Wichita. She died earlier. He married Mavis E. Leonard on June 12, 1976, in Pleasanton. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three sons, David, Overland Park, Charles L., Garnett, and Larry, Lawrence; two daughters, Cheryl Gondinez, De Soto, and Deanna Duncan, Bartlesville, Okla.; three sisters, Norma Gregerson, Neosho, Mo., Rose Giffin, Radley, and Alice Pethtel, Warsaw, Mo.; a brother, Rex Colvin, Pittsburg; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Assn., sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
