Lawrence Raymond "Ray" Hofer 1930 - 2005 Girard

A funeral Mass for Lawrence Raymond "Ray" Hofer, 75, rural Girard, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul, Kan.Mr. Hofer died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, in Girard.He was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Walnut, the son of Joseph V. and Marguerite A. Beachner Hofer. He attended school in St. Paul.Mr. Hofer served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was an inspector for the American Energy Commission until 1995. He then worked at Honeywell International until moving to Girard in 1997.He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard, the Knights of Columbus and Brazilton Ruritan Club.He married Shirley Ann Levin on Aug. 12, 1961, in Dunedin, Fla. She died Sept. 22, 1996.Survivors include a son, Scott, Gardner and formerly of Lawrence; three brothers, Joe, Girard, Jim, Walnut, and F.W. "Bill," Weir; a sister, Mary Clarkin, Kansas City, Mo.; and a granddaughter.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 258, Girard 66743.
