Dr. Edward Phillip Miller 1942 - 2005 Oskaloosa
Services for Dr. Edward Phillip "Phil" Miller, 63, Oskaloosa, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oskaloosa Middle School multipurpose room. Private family inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.Dr. Miller died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at his home.He was born March 19, 1942, in Cherryvale, the son of Ralph Davidson and Faye Smisor Miller. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Prairie Village in 1960. He graduated from Kansas State University and Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine. He received a Master of Science degree in pharmacology and toxicology from Kansas University and was board certified in both human and veterinary toxicology.Dr. Miller served in the Army Veterinary Corps from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. He had a private veterinary practice in Oskaloosa from 1968 to 1979. He worked as a research veterinarian and director in the veterinary medical department of Coopers Animal Health Inc. in Kansas City, Kan., until 1989.He was a manager of both the veterinary sciences section and research and development department and the director for the product safety and efficacy department at Pitman-Moore Inc., Kansas City, Kan., from 1989 to 1994. He worked as the director for the product safety and efficacy department of Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. in Topeka from 1994-2000. He wrote chapters for two veterinary textbooks. He and his wife owned and operated EPM Services Inc.Dr. Miller served for 16 years on the Oskaloosa Board of Education, served on Oskaloosa City Council and was the Oskaloosa fire chief. In 1996 he was named citizen of the year by the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce. He was on the Leavenworth Mutual Savings & Loan Board of Directors. He was also active with the American Veterinary Medical Assn. and Kansas Veterinary Medical Assn. He belonged to the Church of Resurrection in Leawood.He married Peggy Jean Wise on June 4, 1966, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Kyle E., Boston, and Trenton A., Eudora; two brothers, David L., Edmond, Okla., and Richard H., Rose Hill; and a grandchild.The family suggests memorials to the Phil Miller Memorial Fund for Fire District 8, sent in care of Barnett Funeral Home, P.O.
