Dwayne Bird

Services for Dwayne Bird, 68, Great Bend, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Great Bend. Burial will be in Eden Valley Cemetery in Seward.Mr. Bird died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at his home.He was born Aug. 2, 1937, in McLoud, Okla., the son of Oscar Randolph “Randy” and Bula Coleman Bird. He moved from Wichita to Great Bend in 1969.Mr. Bird served in the U.S. Army. He was owner-operator of Bird Oil Co. Inc.He was a past officer of the Lions Club, American Legion Argonne Post 180, Elks Lodge 1127, a past board of director of Security State Bank and UMB Bank. He also served on the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president of the Kansas Quarter Horse Racing Assn. and a past director of Kansas Oil Marketers Assn.He married Carol Hawk on Dec. 21, 1962, in Bartlesville, Okla. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Steve, Great Bend, and Kevin, Lawrence; a sister, Joyce Graham, Irvine, Calif.; and four grandchildren.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend 67530.
