Edwin R. Burgess

Services with military honors for Edwin R. Burgess, 84, Carson City, were Aug. 13 at First Presbyterian Church in Carson City.Mr. Burgess died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at his home.He was born July 2, 1921, in Lawrence, Kan., the son of Edwin T. and Helen Rohrer Burgess. He attended Lawrence Memorial High School and Lawrence Business College.Mr. Burgess served in the U.S. Army during World War II in China, Burma and India. He was a member of the India Group, Golden West Baska of Southern California and a commander and past commander of the 250th Port Battalion Group that served in India. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, White Shrine, Sierra Sage 3 in Carson City and a 50-year member of Acacia Lodge 9 F&AM in Lawrence. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 75 years and was a scoutmaster for more than 30 years. He was an Eagle Scout.He married Elsie May Griffin on Aug. 21, 1948, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Edwin E. and Elmer L., both of Yosemite, Calif.; two brothers, Arden and William, both of Lawrence; and four grandsons.The family suggests memorials to the Boy Scouts of America, sent in care of the chapel, 1281 N.
