Richard D. “Dick” Nottage Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard D. “Dick” Nottage Jr., 81, Sugar Creek, Mo., was Tuesday, Aug. 16, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Independence, Mo. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Mo.Mr. Nottage died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, in Independence, Mo.He was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Florida, the son of Richard D. and Minnie Marhanka Nottage. He grew up in LaPorte, Ind.Mr. Nottage served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator with the Second Engineer Special Brigade in the Southwest Pacific for three years during World War II. He was a career employee of the Standard Oil/Amoco refinery in Sugar Creek and an active member of the Amoco Retiree’s Club. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He also served as a marshal for many years at the Crackerneck Golf Course and secretary of several bowling leagues. He earned the Boy Scouts of America’s Eagle Award as a youth.He married Frances Bruson on Feb. 9, 1946. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Richard J., Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara Wood, Lawrence, Kan., and Kathleen Minner, Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to the church or Sugar Creek Civic Relief Fund, sent in care of Speaks-Carson Chapel, P.O.
