James Baker Jr. 1924 - 2005
Services for James Baker Jr., 80, Wellsville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wellsville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fouts Cemetery southeast of Ottawa.Mr. Baker died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Prairie Hill, Mo., the son of James and Inez M. Richardson Baker. He grew up and attended schools in Prairie Hill and later moved to Kansas City, Kan.Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Merchant Marine in 1943 and then entered the U.S. Army as a corporal on Feb. 4, 1948, at Fort Knox, Ky. He was discharged on Jan. 30, 1952, at Camp McCoy, Wis. He worked for a lumber company in Mission and later worked at John Rohrer Construction Co. in Kansas City, Kan. He was a truck driver and retired in 1989. He attended Wellsville Baptist Church and was a member of Teamsters Local 541 in Kansas City, Mo. He was also a Boy Scouts of America leader.Survivors include his wife, Ella Rose Baker, of the home; four sons, Kenneth J., Charles E., Allan W., and Michael E., all of Wellsville; a daughter, Diana Hendry, Topeka; a sister, Evelyn Headings, Maple Valley, Wash.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa.The family suggests memorials to the church, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
