Wallace Gale Armbrister

Services for Wallace Gale Armbrister, 60, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Armbrister died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at Royal Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Olathe.He was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Roanoke, Va., the son of Eugene Wallace and Ethel “Danner” Smith Armbrister. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1963. Mr. Armbrister served in the U.S. Army National Guard in the HHC, 2Bn, 137th Inf. He was on active duty at Fort Carson, Colo., during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. He was a supervisor at Hallmark Cards for more than 25 years and retired in 1999. He worked for Pine Family Farms and as a substitute teacher in Baldwin schools after he retired.He was a member of Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, American Legion, in Lawrence, First United Methodist Church, Vinland Grade School Site Council and the Coal Creek Library Assn. He was active in American Legion and other youth amateur baseball teams. He was also involved with other youth activities in Lawrence and Baldwin. He recently was an assistant coach of the Baldwin High School girl’s softball team.Mr. Armbrister married Cheryl “Cheri” Kitlen on April 30, 1966, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include his mother, Lawrence; two sons, Matt, Raleigh, N.C., and Jay, Baldwin; two brothers, Jackson, Lawrence, and E.L. Smith, Wytheville, Va.; a sister, Pattie Johnston, Lawrence, and two grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Fund or the donor’s choice, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Armbrister.
