The Rev. Thomas William Nyquist 1924 - 2005 Topeka
Services for the Rev. Thomas William Nyquist, 80, Topeka, will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Private inurnment services will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.The Rev. Nyquist died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.He was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Scobey, Mont., the son of John S. Sr. and Agnes Walstrom Nyquist. He moved to Minnesota in 1933, where he graduated from Milaca High School in 1942. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1948, and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J., in 1951.He served in the U.S. Army in the Medical and Adjutant General's Departments from 1944 to 1946, including 15 months in Italy. He was ordained to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in 1951 and served churches in Waukesha, Wis., from 1951 to 1953; Litchfield, Minn., from 1953 to 1959; Iola, from 1959 to 1989; and Moran, from 1976 to 1989, before retiring to Topeka. He participated in various governing bodies of the presbyteries and synods to which he belonged.He married Marjorie Auld Landis on May 10, 1953, in Fort Collins, Colo. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Thomas M., Topeka; two daughters, Barbara Landis McIntosh, Iola, and Judith A. Kettle, Lawrence; two brothers, John Jr., and Jeremy, both of Minneapolis; a sister, Katherine McAlpine, Sun City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 817 SW Harrison, Topeka 66612; Midland Hospice Care Inc., 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka 66606 or the donor's choice.
