Loren D. Freeman 1933 - 2005
Services for Loren D. Freeman, 71, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date.Mr. Freeman died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Oct. 12, 1933, in Cherokee County, the son of Floyd and Lula Wilson Freeman. He graduated from McCune High School in 1951. He had lived in Lawrence since 1968.Mr. Freeman served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and served most of his time in Germany. He worked for Parsons Cold Storage in Parsons and later at the Manor Baking Co. from 1958 to 1965. He worked as a route man for Meyer Dairy from 1965 to 1970. He and his wife opened Freeman Used Furniture and Appliance in 1969 and sold the business in 1988. They also started Freeman Auction Service in 1976 and retired in July of 1998.He married Marjorie H. Baldwin on March 4, 1955, in Parsons. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Russell, Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Sheree Nairn, Lawrence; a sister, Luella Valliere, Wichita; and five grandchildren.Two sons died earlier, Kevin Dee in 1959 and Gregory Lynn in 1960.Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the service hour Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to the Oncology Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or in honor of the fourth floor nursing staff at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at www.rumsey-yost.com.
