Juanita Anne Barbee

Services for Juanita Anne Barbee, 67, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Victory Bible Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.Mrs. Barbee died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at her home.She was born Feb. 1, 1938, in Neosho, Mo., the daughter of Wilbur and Ella Wright Terry. She graduated from Kansas University in 1979. She moved from Kansas City, Mo., to Lawrence in 1976.Mrs. Barbee taught at East Heights and Sunset School in Lawrence. She taught for 21 years. She served with her husband at churches in Joplin, Mo., and Wichita Falls, Texas. She was a member of Victory Bible Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Lawrence Education Assn. She was active in the planning and executing the annual Martin Luther King Celebration in Lawrence.She married the Rev. Leo Barbee Jr. on July 24, 1960, in Neosho, Mo. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include five sons, James J. Angola, Los Angeles, Leo Stephen, Lawrence, John Michael, Kansas City, Mo., Brent Lee, Lawrence, and Brian Keith, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Victoria Lynn Barbee, Lawrence; four brothers, Eugene Terry, Colorado Springs, Cecil Lee Terry, Grandview, Mo., Bobby Terry, Neosho, Mo., and Willis Terry, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Judith Jordan, Grandview, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.The family suggests memorials to the Harambe Ministry at Kansas University, Hospice Care of Douglas County or the church, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Barbee.
