Chester ‘Bill’ Bartlett

Services for Chester “Bill” Bartlett, 82, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Mr. Bartlett died Thursday, July 28, 2005, in Folkston, Ga. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.He was born June 28, 1923, in Ottawa, the son of Chester B. and Emma Lee Bartlett. He attended public schools in Ottawa. He was also a resident of Evanston, Ill., Emporia and Lawrence.Mr. Bartlett served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Asiatic Theater and in the Korean War. He worked for the Chicago Transit Authority. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901 and the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence.He married Ruth Brown. She died earlier.Survivors include three sons, Chester B. “Little Bill” Jr., Seattle, and Robert Wayne Brown and Larry Harrod, both of Illinois; two brothers, Earl and Floyd; a sister, Elizabeth “Jean” Smith; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday before the services.The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Assn., or Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Bartlett.
