Marie Hatcher

Graveside services for Marie Hatcher, 98, Lawrence, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Valleybrook Cemetery in Overbrook.Mrs. Hatcher died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Midland Hospice in Topeka.She was born March 15, 1907, in Overbrook, the daughter of Wheeler and Etta Hollenbaugh Collier. She was a homemaker all of her life. In later years, she worked at Kansas University in food service, working in the Student Union, Strong Hall and at Memorial Stadium. She married Earnest “Dutch” Hatcher on July 31, 1926. He died in 1992. A daughter, Dorothy Kern, died in 1986.Survivors include three sons, Eugene, Gravois Mills, Mo., Kenneth, Lawrence, and Marion, Langley, Okla.; a daughter, Betty Purcell, Topeka; two brothers, Ivan Collier, Laguna Woods, Calif., and Wesley Collier, Anaheim, Calif.; two sisters, Josephine Corbin, Lancaster, Calif., and June Burgess, Topeka; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. The family will meet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, sent in care of the mortuary.Online condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Hatcher.
