Idowu Akinwumi 'Akin' Ajayi 2005 - 1950 Lawrence
Services for Idowu Akinwumi "Akin" Ajayi, 54, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hills Cemetery in Lawrence.Mr. Ajayi died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long illness.He was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Ikole, Nigeria, the son of Chief Ezekiel Adeniji and Comfort Florence Bolajoko Ajayi. He received a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manchester, England, in 1978. He lived in Palo Alto, Calif., and Ithaca, N.Y., before moving to Lawrence in 1990.Mr. Ajayi was a computer engineer at Stanford University Hospital and Clinic in Palo Alto, Calif. He formerly worked as a program assistant at Kansas University and at Cornell University, Minority Engineering Department in Ithaca. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence and the Bread of Life Church in Palo Alto, where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers and the Ikole Club.He married Omofolabo Soyinka on Oct. 2, 1972, in Lagos, Nigeria. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Efugbaike Ajayi, Lawrence, Eniola Ajayi, Kansas City, Mo., and Toluwalase Ajayi, Mission; eight brothers, J.F. Ade, Adekunle, Agboola, Oladipupo, Taiwo, Peter Olu, Folorunso, and Gboyega; and a sister, Caroline Lipede. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.The family suggests memorials to the Oncology Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of the chapel.
