Velma Lloy Wellman 1918 - 2005 Winchester

Services for Velma Lloy Wellman, 86, Winchester, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Church, Meriden. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.Mrs. Wellman died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Jefferson County Geriatric Center in Winchester.She was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Augusta, the daughter of Roy and Gladys Benepe Glasco. She graduated from Piedmont High School. Mrs. Wellman worked for Franklins Grocery Store in Garnett. She was a member of the Business Professional Women's Assn. and was past president. She also was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Garnett and belonged to several camping clubs and The Prairie Chickens.She married Alfonso "Morton" Wellman on Aug. 30, 1937, in Wichita. He died June 9, 1989.Also preceding her in death were a son, Rex D. Wellman, in 2001.Survivors include three sons, Ronald Wellman, Meriden, Lyle Wellman, Oskaloosa, and Alan Wellman, Tacoma, Wash.; and a sister, Lila Davis, Laramie, Wyo.The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church before the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the residents' activity fund at the geriatric center, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa 66066.
