Emporia – Mass of Christian Burial for Donald A. Glaser, 80, Emporia, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Military graveside services will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.Mr. Glaser died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his home.He was born Dec. 28, 1924, near Spalding, Neb., the son of Albert A. and Mary Langer Glaser. He graduated from Spalding Academy. He was an engineering student at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Purdue University and Emporia State University.Mr. Glaser served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He helped start Didde-Glaser Inc. in Emporia and retired from there in 1976. He started Glendo-GRS Corp. in 1977 and retired from there in 1987.He was an inventor of engraving equipment and a charter member of the Firearms Engravers Guild of America.Mr. Glaser was a 50-year member of Emporia Lions Club, a past president of the Emporia Chamber of Commerce and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He was a licensed pilot for 60 years and a certified glider pilot.He married Mary Rohner on April 2, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Donald J., Emporia; two daughters, Diane Harrop, Douglas, Wyo., and Deborah Koons, Lawrence; three sisters, Elaine Cannon, Lincoln, Neb., Joan Miriam Glaser, Omaha, Neb., and Mary Helen Cannon, Grand Island, Neb.; two brothers, Alfred and Mick Jerome, both of Spalding, Neb.; and five grandchildren.The family will receive friends for a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.The family suggests memorials to the Donald and Mary Glaser Distinguished Professorship in the Engraving Arts at Emporia State University or to an organization of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home, 609 State St., Emporia 66801.
