William E. “Bill” Lassman 1925 - 2009 Lawrence
Funeral services for William E. “Bill” Lassman, 83, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Lassman died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Humboldt, the son of Otto W. and Florence Elsa Baggett Lassman. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1943 and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Pittsburg State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945.Mr. Lassman began teaching in 1943 at Liberty Memorial High School and later at Lawrence High School. He retired in 1987 after 38 years. He taught printing, graphic arts and adult driver’s education.After retiring, he transported veterans to VA hospitals as a volunteer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Lawrence Stamp Club, Lawrence Retired Teachers Association, Kansas National Education Association, International Graphic Arts Education Association and was a board member of the former Lawrence School Credit Union.He married Alice Elizabeth Wells on June 3, 1951, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Ken and wife Caryn Mirriam Goldberg, Lawrence; three daughters, Linda Lassman, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sandy Brungardt and husband Brian, Topeka, and Karen Lassman-Eul and husband Mark, Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, Larry, Vienna, Va., Murle, Joplin, Mo., and Keith, Salina; eight grandchildren, Karen Davis, B.J. Brungardt, Nisha, Dolly and Ujala Lassman-Eul, and Daniel, Natalie and Forest Lassman; and a great-granddaughter, Rachel Davis.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl.Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will meet friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday before services at the church.The family suggests memorials to the church, Habitat for Humanity or a charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home.Online condolences may be sent at rumsey-yost.com.
