John Christian Baur

A celebration of life for John Christian Baur, 57, Lawrence, will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Maceli’s in Lawrence.Mr. Baur died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital from heart failure.He was born Nov. 6, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of E. Jackson and Lillian Baur. He was raised in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1968. He also attended the Kansas University School of Fine Arts. He lived in Houston for more than 20 years and returned to Lawrence in 2000.Mr. Baur was a jewelry designer, gardener and art collector. He was involved with the AIDS Project while in Houston and was an activist for AIDS awareness. He was also involved with the Houston Art Guild.He was involved in numerous organizations in Lawrence including DCAP, NetworQ, LOYO and the Lawrence Art Center. He served on the Board of Directors for DCAP for many years. He was a founding member of NetworQ and contributed to accelerated growth of the organization, where he served as the social committee co-chair in 2005. He was a contributor to LOYO and the Lawrence Arts Center.Survivors include a sister, Joan Baur, Montpeyroux, France; and his stepmother, Miriam Baur, Lawrence.The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County AIDS Project, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
