Leroy “Sarge” Edward Morgison

Mass of Christian burial for Leroy Edward “Sarge” Morgison, 79, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Morgison died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.He was born June 10, 1926, in Talmo, the son of Fred and Lena Chaput Morgison.Mr. Morgison served in the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968. He worked at Kansas Brick and Tile, Kansas University, KU Medical Center and the Kansas State Board of Education.He was a member of St. John’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge in Topeka, The Retired Enlisted Assn. and National Association for Uniformed Services. He had been president of Luncheon Optimists in Lawrence and was a 60-year member of the American Legion.He married Letha Berrier on Dec. 23, 1946, in Clay Center. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Bures, Richmond, Linda Rettig, Hanover, and Sandra Hart, Emporia; three sons, Daryl, Baldwin, Michael, Oskaloosa, and Joe, Lawrence; a sister, Virginia Modean, Wamego; two brothers, Arnold, Lawrence, and Edward, Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.Friends may call during a rosary service at 7 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive them until 8:30 p.m.The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Douglas County or the church, sent in care of the mortuary.E-mail condolences may be sent to info@warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Morgison.
