Lawrence school district students enjoyed World Read Aloud Day on Friday with guest readers, including former Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Lawrence Mayor Lisa Larsen, Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center Chief Operations Officer Stephen O’Neill, Officer James Browning of the Lawrence Police Department, Superintendent Anthony Lewis, Billy Mills Middle School Principal Keith Jones, members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, author Susan Tan, University of Kansas professor Amy Burgin, and Director of Elementary School Support Darcy Kraus. They read from a variety of genres and titles, including “When Penny Met POTUS” and “Giraffes Can’t Dance.”
