A 76-year-old man died of apparent natural causes Friday morning at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, according to Lawrence police.

First responders were dispatched around 8:22 a.m. to 4706 Overland Drive “regarding a medical emergency involving a possible drowning,” Sgt. Amy Rhoads, public affairs officer, said via email around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

“Officers and (Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical) arrived on scene and despite first responders’ lifesaving efforts, the patient could not be revived,” Rhoads said via email.

Lawrence Police Department spokesman Patrick Compton wrote in an afternoon update that officers had arrived on scene to find the man unconscious. The death appeared natural, and there was no indication of drowning or foul play, Compton said.

Scanner traffic indicated a triage code black, meaning a person had died, at 8:57 a.m. Friday.
