Emergency responders work at the scene of a car crash early Sunday, March 10, 2019, near Trail Road and Folks Road. One woman inside the vehicle was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Lawrence police say they suspect alcohol contributed to a single-car crash that injured a woman over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched just after 4:40 a.m. Sunday to Trail Road and Folks Road, where they found an SUV in the ditch, partially stuck on its side, Officer Derrick Smith said, in an email.

Smith said there was one woman inside the vehicle, who was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. He said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.

The SUV was about 30 feet off the road, and emergency crews had to force open a damaged door to get the woman out, according to emergency radio dispatches previously reported by the Journal-World. Initial radio traffic indicated the woman’s injuries may have been more severe than they were.
