A Lawrence man was shocked with a Taser and arrested early Sunday morning after a chase that started on the Kansas Turnpike ended in the 1100 block of Lawrence Avenue.

Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Mark Christensen said 35-year-old Cory Phast Lane, of Lawrence, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. Sunday after a chase that started about a mile east of the Douglas/Leavenworth county line on the turnpike. Christensen said he did not know why Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Hamilton first attempted to stop the car, which was later learned to have been reported stolen by the Merriam Police Department.

Officers successfully flattened all four of the car’s tires with a stop stick while it was on Interstate 70, but the chase continued as the suspect exited the Turnpike at the West Lawrence interchange. The suspect then drove south on McDonald Drive and west on Sixth Street before the car stopped running on Lawrence Avenue, Christensen said. The suspect attempted to run, but law enforcement was able to take him into custody after shocking him with a Taser, Christensen said.

According to the Douglas County Jail booking logs, Lane was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including possession of drugs with intent to sell, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, failure/refusal to pay toll, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended/revoked license, possession of stolen property worth less than $1,500 and failure to have vehicle liability insurance. His bond was set at $10,700.

Christensen said the Lawrence Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase and arrest of the suspect. As of Sunday evening, Lane was in custody at the jail.
